Clean Nansana Blitz: 14 Days of Showing That a Clean Nansana Is a Classroom

From 24 August to 6 September 2026, Learnwell Initiative ran the Clean Nansana Blitz, a 14-day awareness campaign on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. It was our first activity after joining Nansana Municipal Council’s stakeholders’ meeting on 12 August, where we signed a pledge to support the municipality’s plans for a clean and green Nansana. Answering the call for awareness

At that meeting, the Mayor of Nansana said waste is still being dumped anywhere in the municipality. He asked for more public awareness on how to manage waste, and said people should be sensitised before enforcement begins. The Blitz was our answer: two weeks of clear, practical messages for families, delivered where they already spend time, on their phones.

The idea: “A Clean Nansana Is a Classroom”

Every street, drainage channel and compound in Nansana teaches children something. Clean surroundings teach care and pride. Rubbish and flooding teach that nobody is coming to help. We wanted every family to see that keeping Nansana clean is part of giving children a fair chance at school.

Built on the municipality’s own plans

We didn’t invent our messages. Each one came from the four plans the municipality shared with stakeholders:

  • Environment Action Plan: protecting green spaces, wetlands and the natural surroundings
  • Climate Change Action Plan: understanding how changing weather affects our homes and schools
  • Disaster Risk Management Plan: preparing for floods and other hazards that disrupt learning
  • Solid Waste Management Strategy: handling, collecting and reducing rubbish responsibly

We turned each plan into short posts that families could act on the same day. Every post asked people to understand and act, not to give, so the campaign carried no donation request.

What we shared

  • simple tips for handling household waste instead of dumping it
  • why blocked drains mean flooded homes and missed school days
  • why wetlands matter, and why building in them puts families at risk
  • how children can lead by example at home and in school
  • encouragement to join the monthly National Cleaning Day in every division

Keep it going

A clean Nansana isn’t a two-week job. The Government’s monthly National Cleaning Day continues, and the municipality has announced that waste collection vehicles will pass through the divisions on cleaning days. Clean your compound, gather your waste, and bring your neighbours along.
